SEVEN DECADES OF MEDICAL LEADERSHIP
From its founding in 1954 to its modern stature as a tertiary medical referral powerhouse, Gandhi Medical College continues to train clinical pioneers.
Founded on September 14, 1954, Gandhi Medical College was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Recognized immediately by the Medical Council of India (now the National Medical Commission), the institution was established to deliver state-of-the-art medical education and compassionate healthcare to the people of Hyderabad and the wider Deccan region.
Today, Gandhi Hospital stands as a 1,200+ bed tertiary multi-specialty hospital complex affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS). It houses dedicated trauma resuscitation bays, cardiac catheterization labs, bone marrow transplant suites, kidney transplantation facilities, and advanced clinical simulation labs.
Each year, GMC trains 250 undergraduate MBBS scholars and hundreds of postgraduates and super-specialty fellows across every medical discipline, fostering a culture where evidence-based inquiry and clinical acumen go hand-in-hand.
